The Definition Of Successful Family Law Representation
“When it comes to family law, the definition of success is: ‘Am I satisfied when it’s all done?’ My goal is to give you reasonable expectations and to make sure that you are well-represented, fully informed, and well-versed in the law and the interactions necessary to get to the point of success.”
At Matthew Kaplan & Associates, LLC., attorneys Matthew Kaplan and Brian O’Hagan provide sound legal counsel and successful representation for clients in Libertyville and throughout Lake County, Illinois.
More Than 40 Years Of Legal Service In Illinois
Attorney Matthew Kaplan grew up in Northbrook, Illinois, and has lived in Lake County since 1977. After graduating from Lake Forest College in 1970, he earned his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1979 and has been practicing domestic relations law in Illinois ever since.
Attorney Kaplan has extensive experience in negotiations and in litigation. He prosecuted the only domestic violence case to reach the Illinois Supreme Court (Best v. Best) to a unanimous decision in his client’s favor, and he was instrumental in that decision’s definition of the process necessary to obtain an order of protection.
Because of his experience and high standards of conduct, Matthew is well-regarded in the legal community. He is known as an attorney who is willing to negotiate a case in order to conserve money and avoid unnecessary damage to the parties and their children, but also as a litigator who will skillfully and successfully take a case through trial, if necessary.

One of the most important aspects of the legal practice at Matthew Kaplan & Associates, LLC., is the firm’s dedication to the client. At Matthew Kaplan & Associates, LLC., you will find a lawyer who will take the time to listen to your story, gather information and work with you to define your goals in your family law case.
The decision as to whether Matthew will undertake a case is both his and the prospective client’s to make. If Matthew determines that case involves a conflict of interest or that the client’s goals are unrealistic or inappropriate, he may refuse the case. If the prospective client and Matthew can reach an understanding as to the proper goals and course of action, then he will take the case.
